The frame is only one part of the decision. Glass, gaskets and seals, hardware, installation and drainage all contribute to window performance.
Leave one part out and even an expensive window can disappoint.
The most expensive frame still has to meet the glass, hardware and wall correctly.
02 Options
Material, profile depth, colour and sightline affect appearance, but the completed system still needs appropriate reinforcement, glass, hardware, seals and installation.
uPVC can provide low-maintenance frames, good sealing when properly fabricated, useful thermal performance and straightforward everyday operation. White is simply the familiar appearance.
Coloured or laminated uPVC can coordinate better with interiors and façades or create darker and wood-like finishes. Much of the added value is visual; white is not structurally inferior merely because another colour costs more.
Modern aluminium systems can create slimmer sightlines, larger-looking openings and cleaner contemporary detailing. Depending on the system, strong profiles can also support larger configurations.
As the frame becomes slimmer and the glazed opening larger, wind load, glass type and thickness, drainage, sealing, hardware and installation become more consequential. A narrow-looking frame is not inherently better if the system behind it is inappropriate.
03 Performance
Frame selection and glass selection are separate decisions. Identical-looking frames can contain very different glazing, affecting heat transfer, glare, safety, sound, privacy and daylight.
Depending on the design, glass may be clear, toughened, laminated, insulated or use performance coatings. More glazed area can admit more daylight, but it can also admit more heat and glare depending on orientation and specification. A large west-facing window can behave very differently from a shaded north-facing opening.
Acoustic performance also depends on the whole assembly: glass configuration, air tightness, seals, frame performance, installation quality and gaps around the opening. A small unsealed gap can undermine a sophisticated window.
Rain performance depends on external sealing, drainage paths, sill details, frame joints and installation gaps. The window must let daylight in without letting rain in.

04 Check
Before fabrication, verify opening dimensions and select the glass deliberately. After installation, check operation, seals, frame drainage and the perimeter junction with the wall.
Windows connect to walls, plaster, curtains, false ceilings, AC loads, furniture, façade design and external waterproofing. One window decision can therefore affect almost the whole room.
