Operate everything
Open, close and lock them. Check movement, hinges, latches, handles, floor clearance, alignment, seals, glass and frame damage.
01 Purpose
Operate · inspect · record · verify
A snag is something that still needs correction, completion, adjustment or repair before final acceptance.
A door rubbing against the floor, a socket that does not work, an unfinished paint patch, a drawer collision, poor shower drainage or a window that does not lock properly are all snags.
02 Inspect
Do not try to remember the whole house at once. Follow a systematic route through living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, utility areas, balconies and terraces.
Open, close and lock them. Check movement, hinges, latches, handles, floor clearance, alignment, seals, glass and frame damage.
Look for cracks, chips, stains, uneven joints, damaged skirting, awkward cuts, unfinished patches, damp marks and poor edge work.
Run water and test drainage, leaks and flow. Operate lights, fans, regulators, dimmers, sockets and installed controls.
Open drawers, wardrobes, cabinets and shutters. Check rubbing, loose hinges, alignment, finishes, hardware and soft-close functions where included.
03 Record
Do not write something vague such as “Bathroom issue.” Record the room, exact location, problem, photograph and date.
For example: “Master Bathroom – Shower Area – water remains beside door after shower test.” That gives the contractor a specific item to inspect and close.
Every snag should remain open until it has been corrected and verified. Completed items should be marked closed rather than deleted so that the project retains a record.
Was the correction actually retested?
04 Check
A component can look perfectly aligned and still fail in use. Appearance alone is not enough to close the inspection.
Choose the action that verifies actual performance.
